Our Story: From Waiting to Creating
Hi! 👋🏼 In case we haven’t met yet, we're Keylee Koop-Sudduth and Micah Sudduth, former disempowered actors turned award-winning multihyphenate filmmakers.
We made our first original web series over 10 years ago.
We had no film school degree, no screenwriting experience, and no Hollywood connections.
We knew absolutely nothing about story structure, filmmaking technique, and camera equipment
- but after watching hundreds of hours of interviews and tutorials (and collaborating with our talented friends), we figured out the basics.
Growing as creators and filmmakers was a huge challenge at first.
Formulaic structures scared us and we always felt like imposters (“Should we even be filmmakers?? Do our stories even matter??”)
On top of that, we had to pay all our bills, and try to maintain our health and social life.
That didn’t leave a lot of time or resources to become filmmakers.
But we knew we wanted the creative freedom and artistic empowerment that being multi-hyphenate filmmakers could give us…
We looked to other actors and indie filmmakers who were a few years ahead of us in their journey and learned from studying their clues to success.
We kept learning, and we kept trying. We took improv classes, storytelling classes, writing classes, and put in our reps in writing groups and working our material onstage.
We grew more confident each time we worked through our resistance.
We honed our unique voices, and perspectives, and took brave, inspired action.
We stopped waiting for opportunities and began confidently creating our own body of work.
That first web series we made became the first featured web series on Zoey Deschanel’s internet sensation: HelloGiggles.
Our next web series premiered at Tribeca Film Festival, which opened doors we never would’ve imagined.
Fast-forward to today, we have two Tribeca Film Festival-selected original projects, a growing indie production company, our directorial work has received over 20 million views online, we’ve collaborated on blockbuster films, produced multiple indie feature films, and we’ve helped dozens of aspiring filmmakers across the globe break through their creative blocks to make their own first films and series.
And we don’t say all that just because we are proud of our multi-hyphenate filmmaking accolades - we say that because we truly believe if we can do it, so can you!!
